Technical Support Specialist
Join AdvanTech's team in San Antonio, Texas to provide on-site support for our Lackland Air Force Base customers. As a Technical Support Specialist, you will be responsible for working with other team members and end-user departments and vendors to serve as the customer support liaison with the assigned military clients for the installation, implementation, training and support of the proprietary or contracted software systems.
What you need to join our team
- US Citizenship
- Possess a current security clearance
- 3 years experience in an automated information environment, with a mix of operational and analytical assignments
- Knowledge of information systems (IT) and automatic identification technology (AIT)
- Knowledge of automated Inventory Management and/or Logistics Information Systems
- Possess at a minimum current certifications in CompTIA Security 2008+ and Windows 7 Configuration (MS 70-680);
- Excellent communication and client interaction skills
- Must be self motivated and enthusiastic with a professional manner
- Proven background in problem solving
- Ability to work independently as well as collaborate with teams dealing with multiple projects and multiple deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred plus three or more years diversified technical support experience or Associate's or Technical School degree with five or more years diversified technical support experience;
- Previous experience with RFID applications is a PLUS+
- Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education;
- Strong training and PC skills, with experience in Microsoft Windows
- Experience with relational databases to include, but not limited to SQL, Microsoft Access and/or Corel Paradox;
- Demonstrated experience in Word Processing, Spreadsheet and Presentation applications.
What you will do
- Operate and maintain a 3D Full Body Scanner
- Assist other on-site AdvanTech team members and customers with technical assistance and support with installed IT systems
- Participate in our on-going R&D efforts with RFID technologies
- Install and maintain PC hardware and peripherals as part of the contract requirements for each client
- Assist in periodic asset inventories utilizing RFID and barcode technologies
- Install, test and maintain the applications on the client's systems as part of any implementation process
- Prepare, maintain and review all training documentation for general operators who will be or are using the programs being installed
- Conduct the actual training classes at either the client's site or other locations as required
- Promote the Company and the Technical Support Services Department externally (and internally) with verbal and written communications that is competent, professional and customer-focused
- Oversee network management and perform database maintenance/back-up
- And, conduct periodic physical inventories of on-site hardware as required

Network Systems Administrator
General Description
This employee's responsibility is to manage all internal corporate networks, external corporate Internet or Intranet servers, all contracted client networks along with all other required communication devices, modems, routers and network hubs. This position will also have the duties of managing and tuning all Oracle and SQL databases that AdvanTech uses and / or maintains.
Major Responsibilities
- Provide technical support to AdvanTech customers on all server-related and user account issues, including account creation, deletion, rights assignment, and password administration for both corporate system and project systems as needed;
- Promote a high level of customer satisfaction through proper telephone techniques and by responding with the appropriate sense of urgency and follow-up to customer's problem;
- Analyze hardware and software problems related to servers and connectivity and perform actions necessary to repair;
- Monitor and maintain servers and account security in accordance with current corporate or customer security policies, including timely account terminations through notification received from corporate or customer management;
- Perform server installs, configurations, upgrades and ongoing maintenance of server hardware and operating system and supporting software, including application of current patches, service packs, updated virus definition, files, etc.;
- Perform print server configuration and maintenance of queues for all network printing functions;
- Configure and maintain Radio Frequency (RF) networks and security;
- Perform and monitor daily backup operations for all corporate managed networks;
- Travel to project sites for network/server installation, maintenance or repair;
- Maintain and update documentation for all network server configurations;
- Maintain and update all database diagrams, data dictionaries and any other documentation pertaining to all corporate managed Oracle and Microsoft SQL databases;
- Perform vendor invoice reconciliation for network related expense;
- Provide management with potential opportunities for uses of leading edge networking and telecommunications technologies;
- Have working knowledge of configuring Cisco routers and switches;
- Have current Windows Operating System knowledge and experience;
- Have a good understanding of TCP/IP; and,
- Perform other duties as may be assigned by management.
- Bachelor's degree in MIS, computer science or related technical discipline or equivalent experience
- US citizenship required (must qualify for future security clearance)
- Must have or be working towards a CCNA or MCP Certification
- 1-4 years of related network administration experience in Microsoft Windows 7 2008
- 1 year of experience in another discipline within Network Operations (Microsoft, Unix, Cisco) aside from area of main focus;
- Prior experience in the areas of building/rebuilding Windows Domain Controller and/or Windows XP.
- Working knowledge of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) would be desirable.
- Prior experience in any of Military-specific automated supply chain operational areas, including Inventory Management, Purchasing, Contract Management and Receiving.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to perform successfully in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
- Willingness to accommodate after hours support when necessary;
- Ability to successfully execute many complex tasks simultaneously;
- Ability to work as a team member, as well as independently; and,
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Some movement of PC and network equipment and peripherals is required.
Performance Level and Scope of Supervision Required
- This is a self directing position and requires minimal daily supervision;
- Primary performance goals include:
- Communication with assigned clients;
- Meeting agreed deadlines for projects and reports; and,
- Performance of tasks within the agreed upon budgets.
The incumbent should be able to function independently as defined in the job description within a time frame of three months.
